My experience with photo editing went more smoothly than I had expected. I started with Pixlr. I experimented with the interface and I found it quite easy to use. I then tried to find an image that I wanted to edit. I looked through several free to use photograph sites but I felt that a photograph would not be appropriate for my blog’s header. I am a fan of pixel art, and many of the games I play follow this aesthetic. I also enjoy simple graphics and vector art as an introduction to a website. So, I searched for a free to use vector image. I found an image of a cellphone’s blank lock screen and I felt that I could transform it into something appropriate. First, I removed the menu logo. I used Pixlr’s color selection tool to select the background color and then I used the paintbrush to color out the menu logo. I also removed the Menu label using the same method. I then experimented with the shape creator tools provided on Pixlr to incorporate my blog title in a minimalistic way. I played around with several different font styles sizes, and colors. I then decided that I wanted to add a more geometric element. I like the Patreon logo and I was going for something similar. This logo uses a circle and a solid horizontal line to represent the letter “P.” I used a square and a line to emulate the shape of applications as they appear on a user’s smartphone. I played with the placement of the non-text elements and tried to place them in a way that would not overshadow the text elements. I went through several iterations of text orientations before I reached one that I was happy with. However, I am not completely happy with how it turned out. Honestly, if I were to run this blog professionally, I would commission art from one of my favorite pixel artists as a header.
